Key facts about tobacco use in LGBT community

As the U.S. Food and Drug Administration rolls out “This Free Life”, a $35.7 billion campaign crafted for LGBT young adults to discourage tobacco use, we are spreading some important truths about tobacco use in the LGBT community.

1. Smoking rates are higher in the LGB community.

   

2. LGB youth are twice as likely to smoke a cigarette before they are 13 years old.

   

3. LGBT smokers are more likely to smoke menthols.

   

4. Smoking rates among lesbian and bisexual women are higher than for straight women.
