Pregnancy can be a powerful opportunity to quit nicotine and improve health for both parents and babies. Research shows that quitting smoking (or any tobacco or nicotine product) before or during pregnancy can reduce the risk of serious complications and support healthier development. No nicotine products are considered risk-free during pregnancy.

  • Quitting smoking before or during pregnancy can lower the risk of birth defects, low birth weight, premature birth, miscarriage and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
  • Any nicotine use during pregnancy presents risks for both parent and baby.
  • Vaping nicotine during pregnancy is associated with increased odds of pregnancy complications.
  • Quitting nicotine can help new parents save money, reduce stress, and feel more energetic.
