Major regulatory initiatives to reduce tobacco-related disease and death are in progress at the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Tobacco Products (CTP). CTP is continuing the rulemaking process for its proposed rules to remove menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars from the market, reviewing premarket tobacco product applications from e-cigarette manufacturers, and planning to propose a rule to reduce nicotine in cigarettes and other combusted tobacco products to non-addictive levels. At a critical time for our nation’s youth and the millions of adult tobacco users who want to quit, this Truth Initiative Impact Series will explore some of the most pressing issues facing CTP.

Robin Koval

Robin Koval is CEO and President of Truth Initiative®, the national public health organization dedicated to achieving a culture where all young people reject smoking, vaping, and nicotine. An acclaimed leader in the advertising and marketing world, and New York Times best-selling author, Koval joined Truth Initiative in 2013. She’s led the successful re-launch of the award-winning and lifesaving truth® youth tobacco prevention campaign and expanded the organization’s world-class research, public education, youth activism, and digital cessation programs to also combat the youth e-cigarette epidemic.

Brian King

Dr. Brian King was appointed Director of the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) in July 2022. In this position, Dr. King is responsible for assuring that CTP accomplishes its public health goals and for operationalizing the Center’s vision and mission as it implements the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act.
