Carolyn B. Jackson is a state representative serving the Indiana House of Representatives from District 1 in the General Assembly. She was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives on Nov. 6, 2018, and serves as the Assistant Democratic Whip for the Indiana House Democrats.
Previously, Rep. Jackson worked as a juvenile officer for the Cole County Juvenile Detention Center, where she drew on her education as a sociologist and counselor to protect the rights of children. She then worked as an adult probation officer and supervisor with the Cook County Adult Probation Department, retiring after 30 years of service.
Rep. Jackson is a member of the Environmental Affairs Committee; the Family, Children and Human Affairs Committee; and the Natural Resources Committee. She also currently serves as vice chair of the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus.
Previously, Rep. Jackson served as president of the board of directors for the Community Center Development Corporation (Ophelia Steen Family and Health Services Center) and Hammond Library Advisory Board. She is currently affiliated with the Hammond Branch of the NAACP, Northwest Indiana League of Women Voters Calumet Area, Hammond High Parent/Teachers Advisory Board, and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and has always been a strong advocate for volunteerism.
Rep. Jackson is a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She and her husband Eric have two sons, Eric II and Thomas.
Rep. Jackson has served on the Truth Initiative board of directors since 2024.
